Do NYC Express buses run on weekends? ›

All routes are operated by New York City Transit. All routes run during rush hours in the peak direction. In addition, the SIM1C, SIM3C, SIM4C and SIM33C provide off-peak weekday and weekend service, and the SIM1C provides overnight service.

The City's rail and bus system is run by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and known as MTA New York City Transit. It's inexpensive, environmentally friendly and a great way to see sights throughout the five boroughs—and it operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Local buses stop at all bus stands irrespective of the distance between them and generally run within the local periphery of a town, city etc. Express buses generally run between major cities and hence only stop at major junctions between these cities.

OMNY lets you pay your MTA bus fare with your phone, credit or debit card, or other wearable device. The OMNY reader can be found immediately after entering the bus.

The first bus services of the day mostly begin between 0530–0600h, with a few exceptions (e.g. services 95 & 96 only begins at 0700h).

The subway operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Riding the subway is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to get around the city. For most riders, the subway fare is $2.90. Reduced fares are available for people 65 and older, people with disabilities, and low-income New Yorkers.

Up to three children under 44 inches tall ride for free when they're with a fare-paying adult. You pay the fare at turnstiles before you board the train. You don't have to do anything as you exit.

What does “OMNY” mean? OMNY, which stands for One Metro New York, is based on the concept of unifying fare payments and ticketing across multiple modes of transportation. We believe that transportation is an essential service that connects communities and brings the diversity and energy of New York together.

Select Bus Service (SBS) buses, which make fewer stops, travel on priority routes, and board at all doors. Limited (LTD) buses, which look like local buses but make fewer stops. Look for "LTD" on the front of the bus, and purple signage at bus stops. Express buses, which look like coach buses and run between boroughs.

Express buses generally travel between Manhattan and one of the other four boroughs, although there are a few exceptions, I believe. Local buses make stops about every 2–4 blocks along a route. Some routes have limited stop buses, also, making stops at major cross streets.

They coaches should be punctual, but bear in mind that if anything goes wrong on the night - breakdown, collision, driver taken ill, passenger incident - the service will almost certainly be cancelled as National Express do not have standby coaches and drivers ready to be deployed at a moment's notice at night.
