SummaryThe CNA/Mental Health Geriatric Tech is an entry level position applying principles and techniques of evaluation, therapeutic intervention, and treatment of patients. The CNA/MHT manages a safe and therapeutic environment for mental health patients.
Experience/Education Requirements
High school diploma or GED required.
College level courses in Psychology or related field preferred or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience in a medical or psychiatric setting preferred.
Completion of certified nurse aid course.
Nursing Assistant experience preferred.
License Or Certification Requirements
CNA certificate registered with the State of Illinois.
CPR required within 90 days of hire.
Responsibilities
Ability to transfer patients within the hospital environment and assist with bed mobility.
A ble to perform mental status evaluations to report to appropriate doctor to determine appropriate disposition.
A ble to effectively follow through with recommended dispositions.
A ctively participates in self development by attending educational programs and has completed annual hours of continuing education as required for assisted living regulations.
A nswer call lights in a timely and courteous manner.
A ssists to maintain MHU standards of safety and cleanliness within the therapeutic milieu.
D emonstrates an understanding of the action and side effects of psychotropic medications.
D ocuments observations, interventions, and progress towards planned outcomes according to charting standards.
E nsures that group and milieu programming occurs as scheduled.
I mplements planned treatment interventions and documents patients' response.
M onitors assigned patients and assists with their personal care needs.
O bserves patient's mental status and documents per MHU charting guidelines.
P ossesses the knowledge and skill required to evaluate patients' mental status to determine treatment needs/interventions.
P rovides orientation/reordination of residents to their environment and provides redirection as appropriate for residents level of understanding.
R eports patient observations (assigned, group, milieu) to RN every shift.
S erves as clinical partner to the nurse giving input into challenging care issues.
C ommunicates creative ideas and methods to other team members for continuity.
T ake temperatures, pulse, respirations, B/P's, and measure and document I & O's.
A ssist patients with all aspects of ADL's.
U nderstands and implements the principals of infection control, consistently using standard precautions and washes hands after each resident contact.
R emoves and disposes of gloves after each resident contact.
U tilizes approved behavioral management techniques when appropriate.
