How do you find your local post office? ›

Click on the 'Find USPS Locations' link under the Quick Tools tab. Enter your specific location or address. The tool will then show you the nearest post office and other USPS service points.

You can use your local Post Office as your mailing address if you open a P.O. Box within that Post Office. If it is a temporary mailing address you can also use General Delivery which is normally up to 30 days depending on your local Postmaster, or their designated representative's agreement.

No application is required for General Delivery. Persons interested in General Delivery should speak with the postmaster. Limitations on the amount of time you are able to use General Delivery, if any, are determined by the postmaster.

The United States Postal Service (USPS), also known as the Post Office, U.S. Mail, or Postal Service, is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government responsible for providing postal service in the United States, its insular areas, and its associated states.

To find the Post Office that handles General Delivery in any area, call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) and request “Customer Service.” You can also obtain the proper General Delivery address information at any Post Office, or by using the ZIP Code lookup tool on the USPS website.

You can pick up your mail at your local Post Office™ location or your letter-carrier can deliver your mail on the ending date you specify. Please note the following: You must present one of the Acceptable Forms of Identification if you choose to pick up your mail.

No Mailbox

The house number and street address or box number must appear when mail is addressed to towns or cities. The address of items sent to general delivery must indicate the addressee's full legal name (see Note above) and the city and country of destination.

One of the most common alternatives to a regular mailbox is a post office box (P.O. Box). P.O. boxes are quite popular because they help address some of the limitations of a physical mailbox, like security and privacy.

Can you still get mail General Delivery? ›

Yes, anyone can use the General Delivery service, but you are only allowed to use the service for thirty days at one location. After this time, you need to move to a new area and begin collecting your mail from a different post office.

Generally, UPS works out cheaper for shipping large items, while USPS is cheaper for sending small items. If you're looking for a price for ground shipping in the US and your parcel is no more than 66lbs, a good choice is UPS Ground.

What It Means: The package has been prepared for delivery at your local Post Office™ and will be delivered by a carrier today. Not all packages are delivered by the same carrier who delivers your regular mail and may arrive at a different time or later in the day.
