Spruce and mahogany fuel sophisticated tones

Each J-45 Custom is crafted in the USA by passionate artisans, and the J-45 Custom makes that tradition known with a vibrant tonewood combination of mahogany and spruce optimized by hand-scalloped X-bracing within. The J-45 Custom’s solid spruce top fuels sparkling note articulation and dynamic sharpness, making leaps from rhythm strums to delicate fingerpicking seamless and smooth. Mahogany back and sides support spruce’s personality with excellent warmth, focus, and sustain that quickly adapts to any technique or musical style. Also, premium hardware, including an ebony saddle, a bone nut, and Grover tuners, ensures that your guitar strings and tonewoods always resonate with strength and clarity, with tuning breaks few and far in between.

Smooth playability

The J-45 Custom’s mahogany neck has a sturdy and fluid feel that’s downright classic. However, the neck challenges classic performance with an acoustic SlimTaper profile that energizes playing. A descendant of the neck profile featured on some early Gibson SG models, the acoustic SlimTaper carve gives fretting hands more freedom and room to roam. You’ll find barre chords, flatpicked solos, bends, hammer-ons, and more are easily achieved with the SlimTaper neck on your side! Moreover, the neck features a 20-fret ebony fingerboard topped with stunning MOP block inlays and a reliable 24.75-inch scale for a look and feel that’s divine.

LR Baggs electronics

LR Baggs VTC electronics capture the kind of amplified acoustic tone you’d expect from a world-class audio engineer working overtime. At the core of the VTC system is an LR Baggs Element pickup with tone and volume controls, a unique build that tracks the guitar top’s vibrations instead of string attack. VTC technology saturates amplified tone with extra harmonic content and analog warmth that’s natural sounding yet noticeably better than a standard acoustic pickup. Additional dynamic automatic EQ handles problematic frequencies as they arise with touch-sensitive compression that works with your playing for a more authentic amplified tone that’s tough to beat.
