Netflix cofounder and CEO Reed Hastings built the streaming video enterprise that claims over 62 million subscribers in more than 50 countries. In Netflix's 2014 surge over $400 a share, Hastings broke through the 10-figure barrier to billionaire status for the first time. Most of his fortune is tied up in Netflix stock and options. Hastings, who is also a board member at Facebook and previously at Microsoft, started Netflix in 1997 with Marc Randolph. Its initial public offering occurred in 2002, back when the company only offered a DVD-by-mail subscription service that won over consumers with its no-late fee model. The Blockbuster-busting DVD subscription is still available, but it has since been passed by Netflix's streaming video service, launched in 2007. Roberts abandoned his $45 billion acquisition of Time Warner Cable in April 2015, after failing for over a year to convince regulators. He will go forward without his father and Comcast's cofounder and Chairman Emeritus, Ralph, who died in June at age 95. The younger Roberts had his first Comcast internship at age 15, then after college made a rapid rise through the company, becoming president in 1990 at age 31 and inheriting the majority of his father's stock in 1999. Some of his biggest hits include the Dark Knight trilogy, the Hangover series, Interstellar and Godzilla. The Legendary-produced Jurassic World smashed box office records in June with the best-ever opening weekend, grossing nearly $209 million and helping push Legendary's valuation above $3.5 billion. Tull was born to a single mother in Binghamton, New York and grew up relatively poor.
